New book on Aging in Canada by Chappell & Hollander

A recently published book, entitled “Aging in Canada”, describes the history of continuing care, models of integrated care delivery for the elderly, the cost-effectiveness of home care and issues related to caregiving. The authors, Neena Chappell and Marcus Hollander, argue that there is no “gray tsumani” coming but rather that an integrated system of continuing care can lead to cost avoidance and sustainability of the Canadian healthcare system. BC has developed a rather unique approach to the provision of primary care services which focuses on the addition of incentive payments into the fee-for-service payment structure. A recently published paper by MacCarthy and Hollander that covers the origins, rationale, and development of the BC approach can be viewed here.
